Once again back in Germany, a place I have been lucky enough to visit on a few occasions. Starting in Cologne, the next stop is my favourite city in Europe, Berlin. There is something about this place that moves to the beat of a different drum beat. Finally, Frankfurt will be a base by which I finish my trip from.
Day 5 - Cologne
My first day in Cologne was really only half a one due to the travel from Brussels. I tried to cover as much as I could in the time that was available.
Day 6 - Cologne
Today’s weather was a little on the damp side so the planned trip to Bonn took a back seat to staying in and around Cologne. First it was a search for Stolpersteines and then a visit to Melaten Cemetery. Maybe not the most touristy thing to do but definitely interesting.
Day 7 & 8 Berlin
Day 7 was largely travelling between Cologne & Berlin and Day 8 the weather wasn’t so great. You accept and make the most out of it.
Day 9 - Berlin
Covered a lot of ground today (over 18km walked … thanks fitbit). Started at the East Side Gallery then onto Treptower Park and finished at the Olympic Stadium. Had a bit of Mexican and a short walk to finish off the day.
Day 10 - Berlin
From the Templehof airfield to a funky memorial at Bayerischer Platz then onto to the Unter den Linden. Certainly was a bit of getting around today.
Day 11 - Berlin
From the Wannsee Conference House where the “Final Solution” was first delivered to a 1929 vintage cinema and a 1927 classic (with orchestra) … what a day.
Day 12 - Berlin
The last full day in Berlin and it was off to Mauerpark and the Berlin Wall Memorial. After yesterday, I needed to relax.
Day 22 - Amiens/Frankfurt
The day started in France and ended in Germany with a stuttering train trip along the way. A special sunset to finish an interesting day.
Day 23 - Frankfurt (Aachen)
An early start and it was on the train to Aachen via Cologne. A long but interesting way to spend the last full day of the trip.
Day 24 - Frankfurt then home
Well the day has come when it’s goodbye until next time. Looking forwaard to getting home and then for the next adventure.
