Aachen Tourist Service

The link will provide a guide to the Aachen Tourist Service which will contain information across a range of different areas. Accomodation, tourist sites & culinary suggestions are among the tips that you will receive from the site.

Aachener Dom

The Aachener Dom (Aachen Cathedral) is one of the oldest buildings of its kind in Europe. First constructed under the orders of Charlemagne in 796, he was himself buried there in 814. The original Palatine Chapel has been added to over the years, surviving the allied bombings of WWII. The importance of the building can be highlighted in the fact that it was one of the first 12 items to included on the original list of World Heritage sites in 1978 by UNESCO.

A Day Wandering in Aachen

Included are random images of a day spent wandering through this beautiful city. It started off with a delayed rail service from Cologne, was punctuated by snow falls throughout the day but at no time did it disappoint the history tragic that I confess to be. One day I will make it back for the Christmas Markets but until then, the memories and images will have to suffice. Definitely to be continued.

Statues & Sculptures

One of the features of Aachen is the range of sculptures that are littered throughout the city. They range from kings, children, mythical beasts and funky representations of humans in various poses. If you visit, keep an eye out and see how many varied figures you can find.
