General Information
This page is really a start point. If you have reached here, you are thinking of going overseas or making a decision to go again. Either way, hopefully I can provide you with a little bit of information that may help in your plans.
Who am I?
First of all, allow me to introduce myself. I am a 63-year-old schoolteacher who unashamedly loves travel. Covid put a bit of a dampener on this activity for a while but like everything in life, you take the good with the bad. While I don’t profess to have travelled extensively throughout the world, I have been fortunate to visit some interesting places which I believe has helped to broaden my view on life in general. The beauty of overseas travel is witnessing how other cultures exist, both in a good and bad way. Viewing your own country after seeing what others experience, certainly helps to foster a much greater appreciation for what you have.
Anyway, enough of the philosophy and onto a more interesting topic, me. My first taste of travel was way back in 1986. My fiancée Tracy (who would later become my wife & still puts up with me to this day) and I, flew to Hong Kong when it was still under British control. From the moment I bought a 1st class ticket on the Star Ferry, I knew that travel was something I would fall in love with. If the truth be known, the ticket cost 40c which was better than spending 20c and sitting with chickens. We would later travel to the UK, Paris & the US as a married couple in 1989 just before the patter of tiny feet descended into our life. After a hiatus of roughly 23 years, we ventured back to the UK with our daughter and from there, the travel began. My first trip alone was to Japan after my wife didn’t allow me to travel to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open tennis in January of 2017. I know it was a whole different hemisphere but when she said I could anywhere else … well as the old saying goes, in for a penny … From here I have travelled to Europe by myself twice, it would have been a third if not for covid.
So, if you want to read on, please feel free to do so. Please be assured that I am not funded or being paid to suggest anything or anyone on this site. If I say it, I’ve experienced it or at least know people who have. At the end of the day anything you read on this or any other site can only be taken as a guide. What works for one may not work for somebody else.
Anyway, follow the links and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am more than happy to allay your fears or to help out where I can.
