Germany Page
I’ve put together personal memories and information relating to travels in Germany. Click on the link provided for each individual page.
Berlin
I am an unabashed lover of this place. Personally, it is my favourite city to visit in Europe. It definitely isn’t the prettiest destination in Europe but, with apologises to Dennis Denuto, there is a certain vibe about the place. If you want history, culture and a good time, you wont be disappointed.
Cologne
In one way, Cologne is the perfect stepping stone into Germany. An easy train trip from Brussels or from the East, it provides a perfect pivot to other major destinations. Beyond that, it is a city that dates back to Roman times and is definitely worth a wander around.
Frankfurt
Due to the bombing of WWII, Frankfurt is a relatively modern city. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I can honestly say it was worth the stay. Another bonus is the fact that Frankfurt has become a major transport hub. Fly in, fly out, it’s all here.
Nuremberg
Generally accepted as one of the Christmas markets to visit in Europe. If you have never experienced a European festive season, it is certainly worth a visit. Also known for it’s association with National Socialism, it is a mix of the old and the new.
Memorials
One of the more confronting aspects of travelling through Germany is visiting the various memorials to the victims of the National Socialist regime of the 1930’s & 40’s. Add to that the Berlin Wall and you have a microcosm of 20th Century global politics.
Cemeteries
Visiting cemeteries provides a different historical glimpse into the history of a city. Sometimes it’s the people and sometimes the sculptures but I honestly find them totally enthralling. Featured on the page are cemeteries from Berlin & Cologne.
